Ich kann das "Hörspiel" (Audioplay doesn't have that childish ring to it, though) Lost Souls nur empfehlen; man sollte allerdings schon Staffel 2 von Torchwood in Gänze gesehen haben, da es danach (aber vor den Doctor Who Episoden The Stolen Earth/Journey End) spielt und es sonst ein durchaus massiver Spoiler ist.Sehr, sehr unterhaltsam; nicht zu vergessen das zusätzliche Interview mit u.a. Russel T. Davis, Eve Myles und Gareth David Lloyd.
In diesem Hörspiel - danke für die Idee - haben wir die Freude, nicht nur drei Mitglieder des Torchwood-Casts zu hören, sonden auch Freema Agyeman, die als Martha Jones - mittlerweile Dr. Martha Jones - eine der Begleiterinnen des Doctors in seiner zehnten Form gewesen ist. Sie ist es auch - als Offizierin von U.N.I.T., die Torchwood nach CERN ruft, weil kurz vor einem großen Experiment um Higgs-Teilchen Mitarbeiter des Instituts verschwinden. Schnell zeigt sich, dass der Große Teilchenbeschleuniger eine Art Tor für etwas überaus Unangenehmes darstellt.In 45 Minuten kann man nur eingeschränkt Handlung mit mehreren Personen in ein Hörspiel packen, das auch noch Musik und Lauteffekte mit sich bringt. Deswegen halte ich die Geschichte für die Zeit und das Medium eigentlich für angemessen.Neben dem Hörspiel gibt es ein BBC-Radio-Feature zu Torchwood, in dem neben den Schauspielenden auch Russell T. Davies zu Wort kommt. Alles in Allem eine sehr zufriedenstellende Hörerfahrung.
Für Fans stellt dieses erste Hörspiel sicherlich ein MUSS dar, die Interviews mit den Sprechern/Schauspielern allemal.Ich halte die Story jedoch für etwas zu flach, habe da mehr erwartet. Alles irgendwie vorhersehbar und allzu linear. Die technische Realisierung ist auch irgendwie komisch, es scheint, als ob jeder Satz einzeln aufgenommen wurde, ganz anders als das, was ich von anderen BBC-Hörspielen gewohnt bin.Unterm Strich ok, aber vom Stuhl hats mich nicht gerissen.
This is a full-cast drama, which is my favorite type of audio performance. The performers are all as effective in audio as they are on the TV. This adventure takes place just after the end of the second season of Torchwood, after the deaths of some major characters in the series. Since the mystery involves contact with spirits who are allegedly calling from beyond the grave, the characters have to deal with their grief over those events. The adventure takes place in CERN, the super collider, and some of the scientific explainations of what is happening are a bit implausible. But that is a minor quibble, this series is more about the characters and things that defy scientific explaination. This is a fun adventure, well paced, with good performances, good recording and good sound effects. It also as a bonus has a 'making of' segment that includes cast interviews, which is fun.
I bought this with the express purpose of listening to it in the car while on a road trip. It was short, but fun to take the characters I so love with me on the road. The story line is good, although some of the dialogue seems to be a bit of a Torchwood Primer (REALLY focusing on the "Jack can't die" and "everyone feels guilty" things -- if you follow Torchwood at all it falls quickly into the "yeah, we got it!" category). The interviews at the end are fun. WARNING: Gareth David-Lloyd's voice is so soothing it's almost hypnotic. Use caution when listening while driving alone.
My husband & I have been Dr. Who fans since the early 1970's... when Torchwood came out, we were hopeful that the series would live up to the DW production values and breathless in anticipation of Torchwood's release on BBC-America. Here in the States it is rare that any cast members from a television series actually narrates an audiobook they perform the video version of. We were thrilled to discover most of the cast reprising their roles in the Torchwood audiobooks. Excellent!
I like listening to the actors read the story and revisiting the show. The BBC knows how to do radio dramas.
There just is not enough Torchwood to satisfy a fan and once again with Lost Souls, we get another goodie for the car. I love to listen on the way to work, on trips, or whatever. If you like Captain Jack, you will enjoy this.
